Herman Henstenburgh (1667, Hoorn – 1726, Hoorn), was an 18th-century painter from the Northern Netherlands.

This highly colorful drawing on parchment depicts a vanitas-still life, reminding the viewer of the brevity of life, to which the skull, the bone, the just-extinguished candle, the toppled hourglass, and the flower garland all refer. Henstenburgh, a pastry chef by profession and an artist only in his free time, executed the drawing through extremely delicate and precise layers of watercolor and gounache, and it almost glows as a result of heightening with gum arabic.
